The Framework I Didn’t Know I Had

7FOUR6 isn’t a clever marketing name. It’s my kids. July. April. June. Their birth months, in birth order. They’re the reason any of this matters. They taught me what it means to be audacious. To show the world who you are and not apologize for it. I’ve carried that into every brand I’ve touched.

I’ve spent years in wildly different corners of marketing. B2B environmental consulting. Education technology. Veterinary medicine. I’ve been the generalist, the specialist, the marketing director, and the startup advisor.

Different industries. Same lesson. When a brand truly leans into who it is, it opens up growth that tactics alone never touch. I love nothing more than watching that happen. Somewhere along the way I realized I’d been running the same framework the whole time. I just hadn’t named it. Turns out it already had a name.

7 Brand Foundations

Goal. Customer. Problem. Message. Voice. Channels. Priority.

This is the heart of it. Who you are, who you serve, and why it matters.

Sure, AI could hand you a generic version of this for your category. What it can’t hand you is the part that makes your brand unlike anyone else. The part people recognize with their eyes closed. The part they marvel at when it’s matched with a brilliant visual identity. That’s the part I love helping discover.

The FOUR Step Cycle

Diagnose. Plan. Execute. Measure. Then do it again.

You can’t improve what you don’t test. A strategy that never gets checked isn’t a strategy. It’s a guess with nice formatting.

6 Rules of Effective Execution

Simplicity. Focus. Cohesion. Consistency. Repetition. Restraint.

This is how great brands stay great. They don’t do more. They do the right things, the same way, over and over, until people know them with their eyes closed. And when something isn’t working, they don’t ignore it or pile more on top. They fix it.

Where it all overlaps

Foundations and Rules provide Clarity. You know who you are, and you say it the same way every time.

Foundations and the Cycle provide Direction. You know who you are, where you’ve been, and where you’re headed.

The Cycle and the Rules provide Discipline. You do the work, measure it, and stick to what works.

All of this together is 7FOUR6.

A confession

I’d be lying if I said the rules didn’t land at six to fit my branding. They used to be seven. Fittingly, the last rule standing is Restraint. Cutting one so the whole thing lines up with who the brand is? That’s the truest form of restraint I know.

Most founders already have their foundation. It lives in their instincts. My job is to find it, write it down, and help them repeat it until it’s unmistakable.

My kids taught me to show the world who you are. Now I help brands do the same.
